The previous wars on processors were held with one dominant brand in common, Intel.
Intel dominated vs AMD recently, and was the choice for Apple's transition from the PowerPC (IBM).
But now, it is the time of ARM vs Intel. Can Intel defeat ARM as it previously did with all the others (Intel vs AMD, Intel vs PowerPC).
Well, this time it's going to be that much harder. Intel, with the CISC architecture but better integration technology, was able to defeat its competitors. It was more of a manufacturing advantage than a design one.
I have friends at Intel that I should ask them about, and see what their thoughts are.
But.. why is ARM winning?
Lower energy consumption is a simple answer. ARM is winning because it is the most flexible supplier, by selling the actual Integrated Circuit designs and letting companies like Samsung manufacture as they please.
Also there is the RISC vs CISC advantage. Even at my electronic circuit design years, we studied the advantages of RISC over CISC because of simplicity, and better ability to divide (divide & conquer, anyone?).
The question now is who offers the best PCB Design Services, who has the best partner ecosystem to develop the IP, the actual designs and not the whole product.
The divide and conquer approach was taken out of the architecture design (RISC) and into the business side, making ARM that more efficient.
Something similar to what lean startup methodology is doing to business, with it's background on software development (lean methodology is in my point of view 7-8 words: divide & conquer and apply scrum product development fast).

Open Source as a Marketing Tool & R+D Costs Cutting Tool

There is a similar trend called PCB Design Reuse, and both are basically applying engineering principles of reusing components in practice.
Companies like Google use an open source infrastructure (servers, java software on android, python on web apps) that supports a proprietary top-notch search engine, on an ads model that we all know.
So basically, reusing and opening your infrastructure pays off.
But what about the marketing efforts, can we expect better marketing through making our products basically.. free?
not necessarily.
So what is the key?
The key is having the relevant open source product AND relevant paying futures for the conversions. Things like certified code for an enterprise version, good support level etc.And how do you publish an open source product?
Examples:
Providing integration and support services (Acquia)
● Selling subscriptions to updates and support (Red Hat)
● Selling proprietary components to segments of the user base (Funambol)
● Selling premium plugins, applications, services and themes (Joomla, WordPress)
● Selling hosting services (i.e. Software as a Service SaaS model, adopted by companies such as Acquia, Alfresco)
● Selling the software under a commercial licence and releasing the code under an open source licence simultaneously, aka Dual licensing (MySQL).

If your aim is to capture paper documents, the best option is connecting Athento to your scanner. Athento uses the TWAIN protocol to make it possible. This connection works in the following way:
Documents are digitalized using a scanner connected to Athento. The scanner sends the documents to a folder and that folder will be monitored by Athento until each document in that folder can be captured. Users only have to concern about scanning, because Athento Capture does the rest.

It's very seldom that subjects catch your attention, but the fact that you can actually build a microprocessor during a 4 months class, including ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit), and the GPU or the different records.
I remember we had a book (Hennessy Patterson) which described very well the MIPS architecture, which was RISC (Intel's architecture was, and still is I think, CISC).
The other of the related subjects had to do with intensive work on Cache and its different types. This were also part of electronic circuits, but more for the computer architecture perspective. Among these, we studied the associative cache, random access cache and a mix of the previous ones.
It's very satisfying for me that I now live so close to hardware giants such as Intel and Apple. Or even Motorola, who made it big also for chips manufacturing.
Apple with their own architecture until they made the switch to Intel, not so long ago. I believe this was a great breakthrough still in the Steven Jobs years, since it made Apple concentrate on building an astonishing product, with actually a better operating system than Windows.

¿Qué es Output Management?
Desde nuestro blog corporativo de gestión documental encuentro este post sobre qué es Output Management.
Si el ECM tiene distintas fases, el Output Management está centrado en la fase de deliver (entrega o distribución) y en la fase de compartir en que se encuentran las tecnologías en la empresa (trabajo colaborativo, web 2.0). El post de Verónica Meza me ha encantado, por su sencillez (es directo) y cantidad de información.
Quizás es la fase a la que menos se dedique nuestra empresa, pero no por ello la menos importante. Nosotros estamos inmersos en la captura y la gestión documental, pero al final acabamos entrando en todas las fases del software ECM, sobre todo en los proyectos más grandes como en DGT, BBVA o en otras grandes cuentas.

Gestión de Archivos y la Web Semántica
A través del blog Documental Querido Watson de Julian Moyano me hago eco de esta presentación sobre Web Semántica y Gestión de Archivos, que aparece en el siguiente post:

Document Management and Interoperability in Spain's DMV
We have recently published a public note on a big project in which Athento is at the core, and Yerbabuena is working with tech consulting firm Tecnocom (one of Spain's 5 largest).
The project has to do with managing over 150 million documents, integrating with the DMV's vertical portals and interoperating using different standards such as CMIS, Web Services etc.
At the bottom, a great Open Source ECM tool based on Java, Nuxeo.

Captura de Documentos automática vs Documentalistas?
Me hago eco de la genial reflexión de Joaquín Hierro en Revista Gestión Documental titulada:
Los profesionales de la documentación ¿vs? los sistemas de captura avanzada
Al igual que a él también me parece que los documentalistas tienen mucho valor que aportar en la parte de entrenar, calibrar etc. (como queramos llamarlo) a los sistemas de Captura de Documentos "Inteligente", como nos ocurre con Athento.
Al final, a la hora de definir una ontología semántica ¿quién lo hace? y el cuadro de clasificación, para una vez identificado un documento, enviarlo a la carpeta más idónea para su almacenamiento? Y el tesauro, o la taxonomía?
En general, la elección de metadatos, iniciación de procesos o almacenamiento automático requerirán siempre un aprendizaje previo para el sistema, por muy inteligente que sea. Para esto tenemos que designar a alguien, que no tiene porqué ser un desarrollador (de hecho yo desaconsejaría que lo fuera, ya que más que programar lo que "le manden" debe saber sobre gestión documental y la operativa de la gestión documental en el negocio, un perfil más de consultor).

Interesante presentación sobre software ECM
Creo que lo que más me ha gustado es la imagen de un frustrado Goku en la parte de ECM sin tecnologías web vs un superguerrero en la de ECM con web tech.
